Automobiles to much of the human race, has a special place in their psyche! Call it “Car Culture” or “Love of the Roads” to even “The Common’s Man Freedom” the automobile has a way of hitting human being’s decision making process.
On place, that the automobile industry, try to hit human being’s decision making process is at Motor Shows. Thailand, now in the top ten most important automobile hub of the globe, have also come to rely on Motor Show to spark the industry and the imagination of Thais. Usually, at these motor shows, 10s upon 1,000s of automobile are sold, helping set the stage, to spark the industry forward.
However, Thailand’s auto scene, like most of Thailand, is being depressed by politics, zapping consumers spending. Add to that, last year’s government campaign of a tax break on anti purchase, has seen a great deal of demand, skewed to last year purchase. Then Thailand’s consumer debt has been creeping up, while prospect for higher future income, of course, also hurt by the political crisis. If all of that is not enough to depress any businessmen, Thailand’s government mega-spending, some US$70 to 90 billion, on infrastructure and anti floods works, has been blocked by the Bangkok establishment, apart from zapping potential benefit from stimulating the economy, has also mostly destroy Thailand’s medium to long term hope of strong economic growth, from being a center of ASEAN.
At the current Bangkok Motor Show, there is a dearth of exciting “Sexy News” that could have helped spark some life into Thailand’s auto industry.

Chevrolet has introduced the limited edition Sport model based on the 2014 Colorado pickup truck at the Bangkok Motor Show in Thailand.
As you might have already noticed, the special edition vehicle is available on the global Colorado and has nothing to do with the 2015 model year Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size trucks that will go on sale across the United States later this.
Scheduled to be built in only 500 units, the 2014 Colorado Sport is equipped with LED daylight running lights, a bull bar, a third brake light on the bed, side steps and a set of 17-inch alloy wheels. The truck comes in three exterior colors – Black Sapphire, Summit White and Orange Rock – and with special Sport decals.
Although this version of the truck looks a bit more aggressive compared to the regular Colorado, the Sport model has the familiar 2.5-liter Duramax diesel engine under the hood. Chevy says the Sport package is only available on Crew-Cab 2WD High-Stance and Extended-Cab 2WD High-Stance models.
The 2014 Chevrolet Colorado was introduced in Thailand last December. The updated truck is powered by a 2.8-liter diesel mill rated at 200 hp and 500 Nm of torque and a 2.5-liter oil burner that generates 163 hp and 380 Nm of torque. Both engines can be had with either a Hydra-Matic six-speed self-shifter or a new six-speed manual transmission.
MyLink infotainment, a seven-inch screen for the LTZ1, Display Information Cluster, Park Assist and the Orange Rock exterior colors are all new on the 2014 Colorado.

General Motors Thailand announced today that they will submit an application to the Board of Investment’s Eco Car Phase 2 programme.
The announcement was made on the sideline of the Bangkok International Motor Show, which will be open for the general public tomorrow.
The application period for the scheme will end on March 31.
“GM’s intent to develop a new Chevrolet car for production in Thailand is well aligned with the objective of the Eco Car programme,” said Marcos Purty, the new managing director of GM Thailand.
“By submitting this application, GM reaffirms its commitment to invest in Thailand and make Rayong a strategic hub for global exports. Additionally, this investment will bolster our long-term commitment to the excellent regional supplier network.”
The programme calls for automakers in Thailand to build an all-new vehicle that is fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly, safe, and low cost, for sale throughout the region by the end of the decade. Eco cars are expected to use many locally produced components, including powertrain parts.

The new Monster remains iconic as ever, while sporting a new engine to improve the riding experiences for all riders. Sawas dee crub! We’re reporting live from the 2014 Bangkok Motor Show, where Ford has just unveiled the handsome Ford Everest Concept. The Ranger T6-based SUV is making its ASEAN debut in the Thai capital. It’s similar to the concept car shown in Australia back in August 2013, but today’s SUV is painted in an eye-catching “Sunset Flare” orange hue.
“The Ford Everest Concept shows the bold new direction that we envision for a mid-size, seven-seat SUV that has been designed for ASEAN and global markets,” said Matt Bradley, president of Ford ASEAN. He also revealed that the production Everest, based on this concept (a “strong precursor” Ford says), will be built in Rayong, Thailand, alongside the Ranger.
The Everest Concept builds on Ford’s SUV expertise and is aimed squarely at the global utility market (trucks and truck-based SUVs), which grew 13% in 2013. Ford outpaced this growing segment last year, selling 1.2 million of such vehicles, a 35% growth from 2012. A lot of this is down to the popular Ranger T6, which tops its class in our opinion.
Unlike the previous Everest, this concept doesn’t look identical to the truck it’s based on. The front end features a bold inverted trapeziodal grille, covered in chrome. The swept back headlamps, which are rather petite for such a big SUV, are connected to the grille. Like the Ranger, there’s a faux vent in the front wing.
At the back, the “negative scallop” taillamps are bridged by a chrome bar with Everest lettering. Skid plates at both ends stand out in silver. The Everest will take on the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Chevrolet Trailblazer when it debuts. To our eyes, it’s the most handsome of the lot, by far. What say you?

And the cat is out of the bag! The highly anticipated Yamaha R25 production model is finally close to being revealed in Thailand, along with one more product (UPDATE: Tricity Scooter) and here are details of Yamaha’s new baby!! The new Yamaha R25 looks much like the concept model we saw earlier, which is only a good thing as the concept bike has borrowed in plenty from the Yamaha M1 Moto GP contender.
The new Yamaha R25 launch in India is expected to happen towards late 2014/early 2015 and the bike will become a direct rival to the Hyosung GT250R, Kawasaki Ninja 250 Mono, Honda CBR250R, et al. It is highly likely that the new Yamaha R25 will be produced locally in India, which will help the bike maker to keep the costs under check. The Yamaha R25 will play the perfect elder sibling to the YZF R15, which is slowly getting a bit long in the tooth now.
The R25, unlike the R15, will be built around a tubular frame. It may be noted that the R15 boasts of a steel spars frame. We feel that this is a step backward by Yamaha. What do you say? Powering the new R25 is a 250cc parallel twin motor that will bestow the new bike with performance figures at par with the rivals. It is being said that the India spec model could even get a 250cc single cylinder engine, all in a bid to keep the costs low and price ultra competitive.
